Month 3 – Discovery in Play with Two Hands

Perception and movement compose a cycle that is action. Action in the environment is the root of the ecological self… We are what we do.

– David Lee, The Perceived Self

Your 3-month-old baby is more alert and aware of her surroundings. Now that she is more comfortable on her tummy and beginning to support herself on her forearms, you may catch her smiling at you or someone else she is watching from across the room. This shows that she is beginning to develop her orientation skills, in particular to locate people in her surroundings.
