Month 11 – Orienting in Space on Two Feet

(The young child) … remembers the space of time and the time of space of his previous movement experiences. Memory elicits direction in thought. The thinker moves to fill the gaps between previous evidence and present perception. His thought connects points in time and space.

– Lydia Gerhardt, Moving and Knowing

What an exhilarating experience when your baby suddenly finds herself standing up on her own, which might occur when she is engrossed in playing with a toy. This is a major milestone. In standing upright, the perspective of her world changes dramatically. She notices that many things that were above her are now in front of her.
